It is expected that this work will connect 3500 premises in the Port suburbs to the new network by April 2019.
“The construction of Australia’s new broadband access network in Medowie and Williamtown is exciting news for the community as the benefits of access to fast broadband is only a few months away,” Amber Dornbusch, the head of nbn local NSW, said.
“Over the coming months, you can expect to see NBN Co contractors performing construction work in the community to build the infrastructure that will deliver broadband services over the nbn access network.”
In the Port Stephens Council area, more than 21,500 premises have been connected to the nbn access network.
A majority of the Tomaree Peninsula has been connected, as has Fern Bay. Small pockets of Medowie, near Boundary Road and Sunningdale Circuit (Pacific Dunes), has been connected.
The Medowie and Williamtown roll out will be for fibre to the curb and fibre to the node.

NBN Co’s online roll out map now shows the build area covers a majority of the Medowie town centre while in Williamtown it covers Newcastle Airport hub and Sand Dune Adventures.
The dates provided on the roll out map are indicative only. Residents and businesses in Medowie and Williamtown will be notified when they are eligible to order a service over the nbn network.
“We’re working hard to roll the network out as quickly as we can with as little disruption as possible, and we appreciate your patience while construction is underway,” Ms Dornbusch said.
“Once complete, you’ll be able to order a plan through your preferred phone and internet provider. We encourage local residents to start shopping around to find a provider and plan that suits their needs.”
