“Media rooms built in garages are the most common and unfortunately these are often made of brick which does not provide very good sound quality,”
“Projecting onto a “white” wall also gives a low quality video due to distortion and colour absorption,” he said. “It is also often projected too high on the wall for the seat height, causing people to strain their necks looking up at a screen,” Said Toby.
“My clients also complain about the sound quality of their surround sound. It is often due to incorrect placement of the speakers in relation to the seating and the screen.”
“With some planning and talking to an experienced renovator prior to converting your room, a lot of these mistakes and many more can be avoided up front, saving money and ensuring a great experience for clients.”
Toby said that 5 of his key secrets for improving your media room include:
Lining brick walls - there are specialist acoustic batts which, when used with top quality qyprock, will minimise the noise disruption.
Using a projections screen - specialist projection screens are made with a reflective quality that renders better colour and reduces the distortion of the light giving you a clear image.
Know your projections heights - this will ensure reduced neck strain and comfortable watching
Setting up your surround sound correctly - speakers need to be placed correctly for the best acoustics in the room. The quality of speakers is important but they also need to be in the right place, not necessarily in the four corners of your room.
Position your seating correctly - not too close and not too far from the screen. A professional understands the best place for your furniture to benefit from all of the hard work.
