The Raymond Terrace Ravens and Magpies’ round this weekend, the last home games of the season, will double as the club’s ladies and sponsors day with funds raised on the day going to Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation and Riding for the Disabled.
“We’re raising awareness and money for the Hunter foundation because it’s a good cause,” the club’s vice president, Adam Nicholas, said.
“This year we’ve also donated half of our home game gate takings to Riding for the Disabled. We wanted to support a local charity to show that we’re not just a football club, that we also support our community.”
The cost at the gate to enter on Saturday is $2. Throughout the season, the $2 gate entry to home games has been split between the club and RDA. This Saturday, $1 will go to RDA and the other $1 to the Hunter foundation.
The Ravens, sitting third on the A-grade ladies league tag ladder, play the first game against Aberglassyn at 12.30pm.
Magpies North, last on the ladder, face Stroud at 1.30pm. The A-grade Magpies, equal fifth on the ladder with Kotara, go up against Stockton at 3pm.
Ravens captain Julie Tull said the team is looking forward to Saturday’s event, which will be its first charity round.
“It’s a really good cause to get behind, and what better way to do it than with a ladies round?” she said.
The Ravens’ next two games, against the top two teams, are “critical” to win if the side is to make the semi-finals this year, Tull said.
The Terrace teams will play in pink socks on Saturday. The Ravens will also wear special jerseys, one of which will be raffled on the day.
On Saturday there will be live entertainment, face painting, raffles and auctions, a jumping castle, an on-field punter’s challenge before the 3pm game and the canteen will be running.
Australian Jillaroo player Rebecca Young will also make a special guest appearance to Saturday’s ladies round. Young will be available for photos and autographs.
Saturday is also the club’s day to say thank you to all its sponsors.
Punters who head along on Saturday are being encouraged to wear pink.
