Palm Lake Resort
Residents from Palm Lake Resort in Fern Bay have pitched in to fill a Lake Macquarie man’s truck with donations for drought-stricken farmers in the state’s central west.
The community of about 400 residents donated 40 boxes of non-perishable food, cases of water, pet food and other items including three hand-knitted jumpers for lambs to Shane Worrall’s Fill a Truck For Farmers campaign.
Residents delivered the goods to Mr Worrall in Speers Point on Saturday. Four residents volunteered to sort the donated items, which will be delivered to farmers in Coonabarabran.
The community raised a further $3000 in cash. This will be spent at a Coonabarabran produce store to buy food for baby animals.
“We would like farmers to know that we’re 100 per cent behind them,” Palm Lake Resort resident Anne-Marie Thomas said.
St Philip’s Christian College
A donation station has been established at Salamander Bay Square by students. The school had an overwhelming response when it acted as a collection point for Newy Farmers Aid last week.
Spurred on by this, students will now collect items such as non-perishable and pet food, laundry, personal hygiene and baby products outside Woolworths in the shopping centre between 4pm-6pm Wednesday, August 15 to Friday, August 17, 11am-3pm on Saturday, August 18 and noon-4pm on Sunday, August 19.
Cash donations are also being accepted. Donated items will be distributed through Rural Ai’d Buy a Bale.
Port Stephens netball teams
Port Stephens Netball Association has donated $2572 to Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale campaign.
For each goal scored on Saturday the Medowie, St Brigids, Dungog, Terrace Central and Deadly Sisters clubs donated $1 to the campaign.
Medowie Netball Club members scored 792 goals. However, the club put in $1000.
The association matched the figure. Spectators raised a further $115 on Saturday.
