It’s tailor time. Schools of the best quality tailor that I have seen in years are cruising along our beaches and around the headlands between Birubi and Tomaree.

Cracker tailor up to a thumping 2.5kg in size, have been reported off Stockton and Fingal Beaches and in the white water off the Outer Lighthouse.
Other popular spots for reeling in a tailor, are Fishermans Bay, One Mile headland, Barry Park, Box Beach and the Tomaree Tubes.
The fish will bite during the day, however the best times are dusk and dawn.
Pilchards on a gang of 3x5/0 hooks cannot be rejected by these ravenous fish.
Don’t kiss a tailor
They will chop at just about anything when they are in a feeding frenzy, which seems to be all the time.
Silver lures retrieved at a brisk walking pace will be ripped into.
Small tailor are referred to as ‘choppers’, while the big fellows, which can grow to 1.2kg, are called ‘greenbacks’.
Here’s one more tip – don’t kiss a tailor…. they will chomp your lip.
When it comes to cooking tailor, do yourself a real favour and smoke them. Smoked tailor is sensational.
