A man will face extra charges after a fatal crash at Salamander Bay in April, 2018

Police have laid five additional charges over a crash at Salamander Bay earlier this year, in which two people died.

Queensland man Jamie Ward, 34, and Estonian national Lauri Juerman, 29, were killed on April 13 after their Mazda 3 slammed into a tree off Soldiers Point Road.

The tradies had been working on a major construction project in the area.

Two others in the car were taken to John Hunter Hospital with serious injuries.

Crash investigators charged the 31-year-old driver with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death, cause bodily harm by misconduct, and negligent driving occasioning death. 

On Wednesday, Police additionally charged the driver with two counts of aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death – driving under the influence, and driving with an illicit drug in the blood.

The man will appear in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday, October 17.
