Lakeside sporting complex at Raymond Terrace was teeming with athletes for the annual Secondary Schools Hunter Oztag regional championships conducted last Friday.

According to host Nelson Bay Oztag coordinator Blaine O’Flaherty the day was a huge success with close to 800 students from 60 schools taking part.
“The action was fast and the games were of a very high standard,” he said. “Like the sport of Oztag, this tournament is growing by the year.”
Results on the day were:
- Girls 7/8: Hunter Sports def San Clemente 7-0
- Boys 7/8: Hunter Sports def Warners Bay 4-3
- Girls 9/10: St Pius x Adamstown def Tomaree 2-1
- Boys 9/10: Tomaree def Heritage College Lake Mac 4-3
- Boys 11/12: Warners Bay def Rutherford 6-2
- Girls 11/12 : Mount View def Rutherford 3-1
Salamander Bay and Raymond Terrace host Oztag competitions during the winter and summer months.
The summer juniors competition is run on Monday nights at Salamander Sports Complex for boys and girls aged 6 to 14 years, starting on September 10.
At Lakeside Sports Complex, juniors are conducted on Thursday nights starting on September 13.
In the seniors, Salamander hosts competitions in the men, women and mixed divisions on Monday nights, while the Lakeside games for all divisions are played on a Thursday night.
Blaine said that Oztag was making its mark in the Port Stephens region.
