The day will include the opening of a time capsule, visitor interviews and recollections, student performances, a memorabilia display and bush dance.
The day’s events will kick off at 4pm with an afternoon tea and conclude with a farewell ceremony at 8.30pm.
The school’s principal since 2001, Megan Elliott, said the 100-year anniversary will reflect on the local rural history and the contribution made by children from the small school to the Port Stephens community.
“We have had many children spend their formative years working and playing together in the beautiful, green school grounds nestled in a rural area 15km from Nelson Bay. It will also be an opportunity to reminisce,” she said.
“This is a special celebration for the entire Bobs Farm community because it is a time for us to honour the people associated with the school, past and present.
“It is also an opportunity to acknowledge the provision of quality public education that exists in small schools.”
Bobs Farm Public School was opened in 1918 and has remained at the same site in Marsh Road for 100 years.
The program on September 21 will also include a smoking ceremony and welcome to country, addresses from the Mrs Elliott, director of education leadership Dana Fuller, State MP Kate Washington, Susie Holliday and past principal Brian Spurway.
Author Yvette Poshoglian will present her recordings while the students perform a number of songs before the evening concludes with a barbecue and bush dance.
