The Sixers Social Women’s Cricket competition will kick off in Nelson Bay on Sunday, November 11 and run for five weeks.
Sharyn Beck from Cricket NSW said the competition, of which she is an organiser, is ideal for ladies looking to have a hit and a laugh.
“It really is just a massive laugh,” Beck said. “We’re really looking for women who have never played before and want to give cricket a go.”
The competition, which is affiliated with the Big Bash League’s Sydney Sixers, was launch in Newcastle in January 2016.
Beck said she was blown away when 20 teams signed up, and doubly so the next competition when 30 teams registered to play.
“I think that what is most appealing is that it’s a short competition, just five weeks, and it’s on a Sunday afternoon,” Beck said.
“Anyone can play. We had a team with a daughter, mother and grandmother one year. The oldest player we had last year was 67.”
