The Bonsai Show, one of the largest events on the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre calendar, will return for the October long weekend.

The Nelson Bay-based arts centre’s bonsai group will stage its annual show between September 29 and October 1.
There will be a great display of native and exotic bonsai trees, as well as trees in training.
Many of these trees have been worked on for years and are miniatures of landscape giants.
Demonstrations will be held at 11am each day and will show the techniques used to create a bonsai by shaping and styling foliage, root pruning and branch cutting to create healthy trees in small pots.
On Sunday, September 30, Brenda Parker, who is the president of the Illawarra Bonsai Society, will be demonstrating her techniques. Ms Parker specialises in azaleas, suiseki and daiza making.
Additionally, there will be bonsai trees for sale, starter trees and everything bonsai.
Tickets to the multiple choice raffle will be available for purchase at the show.
The show will be open from 10am to 4pm each day at the centre located Cultural Close in Nelson Bay, off Shoal Bay Road. Admission is free.
The centre’s 25 member bonsai group has been thriving for the past 24 years.
Bonsai art classes are held in the potter’s shed behind the centre on the first Wednesday and third Thursday of each month between 9.30am and noon.
The bonsai group often collaborates with the potters, using the exquisite pots to house their exotic trees.
While attending the Bonsai Show visitors will be able to view the centre’s current exhibition – Our Wild World.
This exhibition features a stunning display of works to delight the most discerning wildlife art collector, comprising of vibrant, colourful paintings of the wildlife of the world..
The annex will features mosaics. Colourful and varied patterns have been produced by combining together small pieces of stone, tile and glass to produce some wonderful effects in these items.
The feature artist is Nada O’Loughlin-Yonge while the feature potter is Daad Ruelle.
