Hosted by the Newcastle MG Car Club, the hillclimb will return to the Balickera track for a third year on September 29 and 30.
This year’s hillclimb is the final round of a four event tri club challenge series.
The series involves members of Kempsey Sporting Car Club, Tamworth Sporting Car Club and Newcastle MG Car Club.
“There are over 60 entries from as far away as Coffs Harbour and Armidale,” Newcastle MG Car Club president Dave Atkins said.
The defending Mattara Hillclimb champion, Doug Barry from Mudgee, returns in 2018 in his Lola open wheel race car, and will be out to lower the track record again this year.
“There is a good mix of cars ranging from small open wheel race cars to larger Commodore and Falcon V8s,” Atkins said.

The hillclimb, one of the longest continuously run Mattara events, was previously held in Newcastle’s King Edward Park, however was forced to in 2016 due to works in the park that made it unsuitable for the race event.
For the past two years it has been held at the MG car club’s home base of Ringwood.
Ringwood offers great viewing of the whole course from either of the two spectator areas.
It offers free parking that is close to the main track.
Ringwood is located at 53 Italia Road, Balickera – 14km north of the Heatherbrae roundabout.
Action gets underway at 9am each day and will run continuously until about 4.30 pm on Saturday and 3.30pm on Sunday.
The admission is $5 per adult, or $10 for a car load.
