Well known Fingal Beach surf lifesaver Andrew Parker will contest the gruelling Coolangatta Gold for the third time on October 6.

The Coolangatta Gold, held annually on the Gold Coast, is one of the most challenging endurance races in surf sports.
Parker is currently working hard in training sessions and clocking up remarkable distances with over 80 kilometres across the four disciplines in all weather conditions.
Parker is a natural fitness guru and will need all of his powers to compete in a massive field over the legendary 41.8km course from Coolangatta to Broadbeach and back which includes a 22km ski paddle, 3.5km swim, 9km run and 6.5km board paddle.
He continues to receive great support from his water police work mates who are all into their fitness to cope with their demanding job.
Nelson Bay junior cricket club continues to support up-and-coming cricketers and hopes to field seven teams in the 12 to 17 year old age bracket as well as an under-13 all girls team this season.
Some of the older representative juniors teamed up with the senior club for a trial game against a Central Coast club at the Salamander No.1 ground on Saturday.
The juniors season starts on Saturday, October 6 with the club expected to do well across the age groups.
Two Nelson Bay elite athletes, Bobbie Law and Maya Stewart, are clocking up their frequent flyers points by competing the 2018 Aon University Sevens Series.
The girls, representing the University of New England, went to Brisbane on September 22-23 for round three of the five game series.
The pair have already played in Hobart and Canberra and will clock up more kilometres with games set down for the Gold Coast and South Australia in October.
The Higgins family from Raymond Terrace are well known in rugby league circles with both their boys and girls playing at the elite level.
It was a day of mixed fortunes for the Higgins family in the Newcastle Rugby League grand-finals played at McDonald Jones Stadium on the weekend.
In the ladies league tag decider Higgins girls Olivia and Sophie were in line for back-to-back premierships playing with South Newcastle Rugby League Club.
The Lionesses led 8-6 at half time only to see the West Rosellas lock the scores at 8-8 at full time and going on to win the title in extra time 14-8.
Luke Higgins played in the first grade grand-final for Souths against Lakes. The tough prop sealed victory with a try late in the game as they stormed home late to win 30-18 against the Seagulls.
Luke also tasted grand-final victory in 2016 with Souths. Brother Liam was part of that win, picking up the man of the match award.
The history continues with dad, Craig, captain-coaching Waratah to a grand-final win in 1990 and mum, Kathleen’s, dad, Hilton O’Connor losing to West in the 1962 grand final 10-9, alongside brother Ron in controversial circumstances.
Nelson Bay Golf Club hosted its annual two-day pro-am last Thursday and Friday.
With the course presented in magnificent condition and support from local businesses, led by the Blue Water Grill, to post $23,000 in prize money, the tournament attracted a quality field.
On the tree-lined fairways it was crucial to keep the ball in play. The experienced Matthew Millar and rookie Hayden Webb had fine rounds of 3 under par 69 to lead the pack after round one.
The perfect conditions on day two saw two players shoot course record 6 under 66 – Darren Beck and Jamie Hook – however Millar shot back to back 69s to post a 1 shot victory.
The amateur division was won by sweet swinging Vito Massaioli from Chris Tognon and Brett Allman in third spot.
Last Sunday Nelson Bay Golf Club held their junior tournament thanks to the hard work of Warren Moses, Chris Mawson and David Rann.
The day catered for age groups 7 through to 16 year olds. They had good sponsorship from the early birds golf group, mayor Ryan Palmer the and Nelson Bay pro shop.
The boys winner was Thomas Hunt from Mona Vale. Jake Reilly from Toronto was runner up.
The girls winner was Piper Hollis with an excellent round of 79.
The junior golf development continues on Thursday afternoons thanks to a hard working group of lady members, Chris, Warren and the wonderful scholarships provided by the “dirty dozen” golf team.
