Designed by Port Stephens artist Prue Sailer and assisted by the members of the Artisan Collective, the mural was commission by the shopping centre to dress up its new community library space.
Ms Sailer designed the space using elements natural to Port Stephens.
“The mural takes you on a imaginative tour through the Bay but also reminds you of the magic of books and the journey they can take you on,” Artisan Collective member Janet Mackintosh said.
During the space of a few months, the design came together.
The centre sponsored the paints and panels, and over a few weeks members of the Nelson Bay-based Artisan Collective came together to add all the elements.
Some artists long blocks of time, and others painted a bird or group of fish.
“A real group effort for a stunning result,” Ms Mackintosh said.
The community library space and the mural can be found at the food court entrance to the Salamander Bay shopping centre.
