Players were told by head coach Sean McGrath at the club’s presentation earlier in September to “expect to see some big changes” next season.
“Plans are already well underway to not only get the men’s teams back in the finals with the women, but to chase the ultimate success for all three sides,” he said.
A large part of the club’s plan hinges on recruiting an experienced and committed coach for the successful Marlin’s women’s side to replace the outgoing 2018 coaches Russell Fox and Don Spencer.
This year was the first time the Marlins have not made the grand-final since inception of the Black Diamond AFL women’s competition in 2015.
The team, which was plagued by injuries in 2018, was kept out of the big dance after a preliminary final loss to Wyong.
Captain Sophie Balcombe said she is “so proud of what the girls have achieved despite the challenges they faced” and that she “cannot wait to see what next year brings”.
With a number of the team’s talented players set to return next season, and fresh new talent coming up through the junior competition ranks, the future looks bright for the club.
As many of the women’s team have now played several seasons of senior football, the club is seeking to recruit a new coach that will take them to the next level.
“The girls are hungry to get back on the podium after their preliminary final loss to Wyong this year and they need someone who can channel that passion into their next grand-final win,” McGrath said.
The Marlins are also looking to recruit an enthusiastic men’s reserve grade coach as well as assistant coaches for both grades.
All coaching positions are open to playing and non-playing coaches.
Full job details can be found on the Marlins Facebook page.
Applications close October 31.
