For the first time Nelson Bay will host the prestigious NSW Hornets regional touch football championships, scheduled to take place this weekend.

More than 500 players representing around 60 teams from the Hunter, western and mid north coast will compete this Saturday and Sunday at the home of Nelson Bay touch, Tomaree Sports Complex.
Nelson Bay will field teams in the under 20s boys and girls competitions, open mixed, plus the over 40s men and ladies.
The Bay’s Brandon Moore, part of the open mixed side, said the team had been in training for the event for a number of weeks.
“This is a very strong competition with some of the best players in the region participating,” Moore said.
“We have been in training for some weeks now and are looking forward to performing well in the round robin matches.”
Organisers are hoping for a huge contingent of visitors including players and spectators from across the region over the two-day event vying for the ultimate championship title. Entry is free.
Meanwhile, registrations are now open for the Nelson Bay Touch Association junior and senior summer competitions in mixed, ladies and men.
The Wednesday juniors and ladies comps will begin on October 17; Thursday men’s kicks off on October 18 and’ Friday mixed comp starts on October 19. There will be a maximum of four rep players allowed per team.
