A Port Stephens Council spokesperson said that the funding would be rolled into general revenue to be spent on pools, libraries, beach patrols, roads, parks and gardens and sports facility maintenance, plus visitor information services.
Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said the council would receive a total of $6,644,618 this financial year in grants, in addition to roads to recovery, road blackspots and bridges renewal funding.
“This grant can be used to help councils deliver infrastructure projects and fund health, recreation, environmental and employment projects,” Dr Gillespie said.
“I am looking forward to seeing Port Stephens target local priorities to parts of the council area that I represent including Seaham, Karuah, Hinton, Glen Oak, Osterley, Nelsons Plains and Woodville.”
