The Mattara Hillclimb has been run and won for another year with Mudgee driver Doug Barry taking top honours and improving his track records.

Sixty-one drivers entered the 2018 hillclimb, which was hosted by Newcastle MG Car Club at Ringwood Motor Sports Complex on September 29-30.
Barry, from Mudgee, in his Lola open wheel race car improved on his own outright and class records with a time of 59.11 seconds, recorded on his first run on Sunday.
The time saw him crowned champion of the 2018 hillclimb. Barry has recently locked in the NSW Hillclimb Championship for the second consecutive year.
Steve Devjac, also from Mudgee, drove a Reynard that is owned by Barry on the weekend. He claimed second outright place with a time of 61.35.
Francesco Mangano from San Remo placed third outright but first in his class. He drove a Jedi Mk4 (750cc motorcycle engine Type 5 Under 2 lite class).
Steve Brydie from Salamander Bay lowered the Type 3 improved production class record by 1.47 seconds on his fourth run on Saturday to easily take the class win.
Matt Halpin from Tamworth won the award for the “Fastest Tin Top” in his LJ Torana Sports Sedan.
Steve Woods from Mount Hutton improved on his own record for the Type 2 improved road cars over 2L cass on his third run on Saturday.
The event was blessed with fine weather with competition on both Saturday and Sunday. The best time set over the two days determined the results.
There were 61 starters in the field representing cars from 12 different classes. They had the opportunity to complete eight runs on the weekend.
Newcastle MG Car Club members made up the majority of the field with Tamworth Sporting Car Club and Kempsey Sporting Car Club taking some significant honours also.
Fastest lady driver went to Elizabeth Brown from Lorn. Brown drove her father’s PRS open wheel race car.
Fastest junior driver was Christian Thompson from Wallsend in his JB Clubman .
The trophies were sponsored by local businesses and were presented at the end of the competition on Sunday afternoon.
