Port Stephens has once again been added to Newcastle Permanent’s Cinema Under the Stars screening roster, which includes 16 regional locations.
The family friendly 2017 movie Paddington 2 has been selected to screen at Tomaree Sports Complex on Friday, January 11.
“Newcastle Permanent is really proud to host free Cinema Under the Stars events in some of the most beautiful outdoor spaces in regional NSW, as a way to give back to families from the regions we operate in,” a Newcastle Permanent spokesman said.
“This season’s movies will appeal to everyone – they’re truly family friendly, will delight all ages and were selected after asking our Facebook followers for their feedback.
“Each location will feature a great evening of free, family-friendly entertainment including local talented musicians, followed by a blockbuster movie for all ages at sundown.
“We encourage everyone to come down from 5.30pm to settle in and relax with a picnic and experience the magical atmosphere of watching a popular family film in the great outdoor.”
The inaugural Port Stephens Cinema Under the Stars held at Tomaree Sports Complex in January 2018 did not go according to plan.
Windy weather forced organisers to cancel the event moments before the movie was due to roll.
A bumper crowd had filled out the Nelson Bay sports complex in anticipation for the outdoor screening of children’s animated movie The Secret Life of Pets.
Throughout the afternoon, movie-goers enjoyed entertainment including live music, activities, workshops and a visit from some of the movie characters.
However, persistent wind into the evening forced organisers to pull the plug on the big screen.
The Greatest Showman and Paddington 2 are the movies selected to screen at Cinema Under the Stars during summer 2018-2019.
Paddington 2 is a live-action animated comedy film based on the stories of Michael Bond’s character Paddington Bear.
Paddington, voiced by Ben Whishaw (Spectre), is now happily settled with the Brown family and a popular member of the community.
He picks up a series of odd jobs to buy the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy's 100th birthday.
The gift is stolen, which is only the start of Paddington’s problems.
The Nelson Bay event will kick off at 5.30pm with entertainment including live music, circus workshops and children’s activities.
The movie will screen at sundown.
