The children’s fishing competition is first to head up the day’s events, well before the rubber ducks take to the water to race in the afternoon.
Entry into the fishing competition is free and registrations will take place from 8.30am. The competition runs from 8.30am to 11.00am.
While there is no minimum age to enter, the competition is open to children up to and including 17 years of age.
The prizes include trophies for first, second and third places.
There’s also a small fishing kayak, rod and reel combo with live bait net and a tackle box and live bait net up for grabs for some lucky young fishers.
All entrants receive a McDonalds restaurant certificate which includes a free meal voucher.
Any children interested in joining the competition are required to go to the Karuah Motor Yacht Club to sign in, situated at the start of the Longworth Park Jetty.
With a range of over 30 market stalls selling crafts, home wares and more, food trucks, live entertainment and the people’s choice car show displaying all kinds of vintage, classic and well loved motors, there is something for every taste and every age at this year’s festival.
For those interested in entering a car for the show, email karuahotf@live.com.au to book a spot.
Entry to the festival is free with visitors welcome from 8.30am.
The Rural Fire Services will be there during the day as well as NSW Maritime services for those with questions about fishing licences and our waterways.
There will also be a range of prizes to win for some lucky festival visitors, with the main prize of 7 nights accommodation in a villa at the popular Karuah Big4 caravan park.
The Karuah Oyster and Timber Festival began in 1998 and featured the wood chopping on those early days, with the Oyster eating competition introduced some years later.
Once again, the event continues with the support of its major sponsor – the Karuah RSL Club.
The club will be offering it’s new spring menu for those looking for dinner options, with some live music throughout the evening, after the wood chopping final at 6pm. The festival closes at 8.30pm.
