Port Stephens Council’s $300,000 croquet facility opened in May and while a band of about 30 people were eager to play, confusion surrounding access led them to taking up Raymond Terrace Bowling Club’s offer to use its croquet lawns.
The bowling club also presented the new Raymond Terrace Croquet Club with $1000 to help them buy equipment.
“We are a community club,” Raymond Terrace Bowling Club CEO Jason Stokes said. “We try and support as many sporting groups as possible. We support the soccer and rugby clubs, just to name a few. We’re glad to be able to help this new club and see it grow.”
Pam Begley from the Terrace croquet club said the group initially used Boomerang Park’s multi-purpose lawns but a desire to stay social and poor communication about accessing keys to the site saw them take up the bowling club’s offer.
“There was a delay with getting access to the lawns and we had people who just wanted to play,” Ms Begley said. “This is a real social thing. We just want to have a couple of games and a nice time.”
Ms Begley thanked the bowling club for its donation. The club meets at Raymond Terrace Bowling Club on Monday and Friday from 9am and play until about noon.
