Even matches on ovals with synthetic pitches could not proceed as outfields were too wet and bowlers run-ins dangerously slippery.

Most fixtures in the grade competition were called off on Friday, with the last hope of first grade action ending with Kurri Central ruled out on Saturday morning for Kurri-Weston and City United’s clash.

But the under-16s at GUOOF Oval took full advantage of their chance to play and City United posted 101 with Dylan Bartlett the star with the bat finishing on 42 not out in his side’s 43-run win with .

Opener Dusty Callaghan scored 15 and Lachlan Scott made a valuable 11 at the end of the innings.

Charlie Grainger cleaned up the tail claiming 4-21 after Alex Lidbury did the damage at the top of the order with 3-11. Daniel Harden took 2-19.

Bartlett confirmed man of the match honours with two excellent stumpings off the bowling of Callaghan including opening batsman Andrew Akerman who anchored the innings with 22. Callaghan finished with three wickets including a rare hit wicket when Lidbury stepped onto his stumps to be out for 13.

After a rare miss with the bat, City skipper Ben Crebert claimed two wickets in an over to stymie  Raymond Terrace’s run-chase. Banjo Bocking, filling in to make the numbers up for his older brother Roy’s team, also claimed a wicket. 

Raymond Terrace, who won last year’s under-15 premiership, were without Central North representatives Lachlan Page. Max Farmer and Jed Collins.
