It is anticipated that construction of the Tallowood Lifestyle Resort, approved by Port Stephens Council in March, will create new jobs for the Port and Hunter region and that stage one of the project will be complete by Christmas 2019.
Tallowood Lifestyle Resort is a landmark project for the Port Stephens area, Chris Sneddon, director of Civitas Lifestyle, the developer of Tallowood, said.
The projects end value exceeds $120 million and our preference has always been to use local designers, technicians, trades and suppliers.
Once complete, the gated Tallowood community will feature 215 two-bedroom homes plus a clubhouse with such features as indoor and outdoor heated pools, covered bowling green, gym, spa, sauna, and consulting rooms for general practitioners.
The resort, which will occupy land at 717-733 Medowie Road, will be built in nine stages.
Stage one is due to begin February 2019 and will include the construction of 42 homes and some of the community facilities.
Valley Homes, based in Maitland, and Skelcon Constructions, from Lambton in Newcastle, have been awarded the construction contracts for stage one of the project.
Tallowood, previously called Medowie Lifestyle Estate, is one of three major developments planned or underway in Medowie that is set to add an extra 700 residences to the town.
In addition to the over-50s Tallowood community, a 50-lot Torrens title development, named Tall Trees Estate, is being built to the north of the Medowie town centre.
These projects are the result of state-determined targets for increased population density near to services that Port Stephens Council has catered for through planning.
By meeting these targets, Medowie could grow from 10,300 people to 17,500 residents by 2036.
A 400-lot residential estate, The Bower, is also being established by the McCloy Group on Boundary Road.
Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer and Civitas Lifestyle directors met with Tallowoods builders at the Medowie site on Monday for an unofficial launch.
