Fresh and frozen bait is always preferred, however if not available think about pickled worms and brined pilchards, which are excellent.
I find there are many advantages using brined pilchards as they remain firm and can be used on more than one fishing trip. Frozen pilchards, once thawed, are too soft and are best used for berley.
Other fishy news
I’ve got concerns regarding the disabled jetty at Little Beach – could I request that more consideration be given to disabled anglers by those able-bodied fishermen who choose to set up rods on the jetty.
On to the Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park, and the move to demand an immediate review is growing among locals. A review was promised in 2012. We are still waiting.
The boundaries and effectiveness of the park have not been considered since 2007, with little to no likelihood until after 2020. Not good enough. This issue is looming as a major political vote winner at the next state elections.
Also, remember the Timber and Oyster Festival at Karuah is on this Saturday.
