It will be the second year the division two ultimate frisbee championship is held at Tomaree Sports Complex, which will see more than 500 ultimate players in 29 teams from around Australia compete across three days.
“AMUC is a tournament we always look forward to because it is a chance for both men and women to compete on the same field, for the same titles,” Simon Farrow, the tournament director and Australian Flying Disc Association president, said.
“With this year’s field of 29 teams we are going to see plenty of rising athletes who can go to become stars in the sport.
“The division two tournament always gives us a window to the stars of tomorrow and spectators can be assured of high quality sporting action at Nelson Bay once more.”
Newcastle Ultimate Frisbee Club has entered two teams into the championship – Party Pies and Wagon Wheels – which will also feature Port Stephens ultimate players.
Ultimate combines skills used in AFL, basketball, netball and American football in a seven-a-side format where the goal is to get the disc into the opposition’s end zone. It is also the only sport in the world that is self officiated.
The championship will begin at 2.30pm on Friday, 9am on Saturday and 8.30am on Sunday. Click here for the schedule.
It is free to watch.
