As part of its ‘spooktacular’ celebrations on November 3 and 4 Murray’s is offering prizes for the best dressed boy or girl, a special interactive game, Halloween-inspired food and live entertainment.
Amy Fredes will entertain at the Bobs Farm brewery on Saturday and Greg McKew on Sunday.
Murray’s Brewery owner Murray Howe said there will be something for everyone at the Bobs Farm brewery on the weekend, including children.
“There’ll be lots of fun for the kids – Pirate Bob’s scavenger hunt, Murray’s interactive kids’ game, or get a spooky makeover for the weekend,” he said.
“The ghoulish game leads the players on a haunted Halloween themed tour of Bobs Farm, solving puzzles to collect their treat.”
Murray’s Pumpkin Ale is one of the craft brewer’s most sought-after speciality beers.
But according to the brewers, the fun starts only when you get to drink the end brew.
“The kitchen team has the joy of peeling and dry roasting around 40 kilograms of pumpkin – and believe me, there’s not many volunteers. They also select the best cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice for the beer,” brewer Sean Costigan said.
“Everyone agrees that the end result makes the pain worthwhile, and the brew really does taste like pumpkin pie in a glass. Its low bitterness level, distinct colour and flavour and good drinkability at 5.2 per cent abv makes it a perennial favourite.”
George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are believed to have made ales using pumpkin.
Due to water unreliability at the time, pumpkin ale was most likely the drink served at the earliest Thanksgiving events in America.
Later, the American colonists used pumpkins as a fermentable base for beer, as English barley was both expensive and scarce.
The annual collaboration between brewers and chefs has extended from beer to also include food. The food highlight will be bat wings – specially presented marinated chicken wings.
