In a tight Newcastle C&S Cricket Association KOFM Cup contest, the Bay’s A-grade side fell to Merewether after posting 5-131.
Merewether charged late to win 6-133.
Best for the Bay were Jeff Simms, 16, Doug Rowland, 29 n.o, and Josh Brown, 51 n.o. The bowlers struck early.
Matt Palmer captured 3-14 and Tyler Ostle 2-33.
The Bay’s B1 team went down to the General Roberts Hotel.
Opener Sean Scully, 27, and Bryce Causly, 44, were solid at the crease.
B2 went down to the Dukes of Waterboard.
This Saturday A-grade face Yarnteen, B1 the Dukes of Waterboard and B2 the Marks Hotel Pirates.
Meanwhile, in the Maitland and District Cricket Association first grade competition, Raymond Terrace’s bowlers dominated Thornton’s batsmen on the weekend, restricting them to 116 in reply to the Terrace’s 152.
Nick Savage starred with 6-36.
Despite the cool Southerly wind blowing on Sunday morning, Fingal Beach Surf Club continued their water craft skills sessions seeing a good roll up of 25 lifesavers attend.
Director of water sports, Eddy Bergsma, put several surf boat crews, single and double ski participants through their paces.
Several former boat rowers were on hand to show the way including Grant Niddrie, Scott Wright and Natalie Vogtmann.
The surf club is preparing for a massive start to 2019.
Fingal will host a master carnival on January 19 followed by the junior and senior branch titles on February 9.
