A climactic day of competition wrapped up the Kaos Surf PRD Cadet Cup and the Open Women’s Pro-Am at Birubi Beach on Sunday with a number of Port Stephens surfers ending their campaigns standing in the winner’s circle.

Amuro Tsuzuki from Japan tore apart all rounds of the competition and claimed first place in the pro-am.
Tsuzuki came up against some stiff competition from Corlette’s Elle Clayton-Brown, Anna Bay’s Jasmine Sampson and Northern Beaches native Lily Macdonald but was able to get the nod thanks to a solid 16.5 two-wave heat total.
Mike Clayton-Brown from Corlette put on a dominant display of giant backside turns to claim the under-16 boys final.
Clayton-Brown remained busy during the 20-minute final, catching a handful of long tapered walls which allowed him to unleash a barrage of impressive turns.
As a result, the natural-footer claimed victory with a 16.04 two-wave heat total over fellow event standout Taj Simon (Port Kembla) who took the runner-up spot.
In the under-12 boys, Boat Harbour grommet Jimmi Hill posted a fourth place finish.
The long left-handers of Birubi played into Charli Hurst’s (Port Kembla) favour as she took out the top spot in the under-16 girls division.
Hurst set a high standard in the heat, posting an excellent 8.83 wave score, which allowed her to gain the edge over Jasmine McCorquodale (Bateau Bay) who finished in the second spot.
Following on from his standout performance on Saturday, Winter Vincent (Manly) put on an impressive display of innovative aerials and turns to take out an exciting under-14 boys final ahead of perennial standout Nate Hopkins (Norah Head).
Vincent posted three scores in the excellent scale (eight and above) in the final, to get the nod and add another accomplishment to his already bulging portfolio of event wins.
The elite World Surf League Qualifying Series competitions, which will run November 8 to 13, includes a women’s 6000 and men’s 1000 rated divisions.
The Port pro will provide the women with a healthy boost of points to finish their 2018 QS campaigns.
The NSW Pro will be launched at the Port Stephens Toyota dealership in Taylors Beach on Wednesday, November 7.
White Ribbon Australia is supporting the NSW Pro this year. An awareness walk and clean-up of Birubi Beach will be held from 7am on November 7.
Other events being held around the NSW Pro is a WSL surfer signing at Birubi Point Surf Life Saving Club between 5pm and and 6.30pm on November 8 and free community yoga at the surf club from 8am on November 11.
