MarketPlace Raymond Terrace is proud to partner with RAAF Base Williamtown to bring Santa to town on Sunday, November 11 and create a day of fun and festivities for all the family.
Following its success last year, the Show n Shine car show will return on Sunday.
“As in past years we are also raising funds for a special cause. This year it is the Newcastle Branch of Legacy,” MarketPlace Raymond Terrace centre manager, Colleen Mulholland-Ruiz, said.
“You would be amazed at the work these people do for both past and current service personnel and their loved ones.
“All funds raised from the Show n Shine as well as donations throughout the day will go directly to Newcastle Legacy – just another way we along with the community can say thank you to our servicemen and women.
We will also as commemorate Remembrance Day with a minute’s silence both in the centre and on the sportsgrounds at 11am. We ask that all join in the minute silence to show our respects to our fallen.”
In the past Santa has arrived in Raymond Terrace by helicopter and with Batman in the Batmobile.
This year RAAF Base Williamtown will be transporting Santa in a Bushmaster troop carrier.
Irrawang High School Drum Corp will lead Santa’s parade at 10am followed by schools, dance groups and a cast of characters including Chase and Marshall from PAW Patrol, Bumblebee, Deadpool, Astro Boy, the Nutcracker, Frosty the Snowman, a Christmas Bunny and the centre’s very own MarkeeP.
The parade will travel down Bourke Street into the lane next to MarketPlace and then inside MarketPlace.
Once inside, shoppers will have a chance to meet everyone, have their face painted or get creative with Sandwizard.
“It’s also a great day to kick start your Christmas shopping. Retailers are holding a massive One Day Sale with some fantastic bargains in store,” Ms Mulholland-Ruiz said.
To mark the 100th anniversary of the armistice, MarketPlace commissioned Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed to make 100 oversized poppies which were distributed to PBL schools to decorate.
The poppies are a symbol for what it means to many to pause, reflect and remember, plus lets our servicemen and women know they will never be forgotten, and that we are thankful for their sacrifices and duty.
These poppies will be exhibited on the sportsground on Sunday.
Even more free rides have been added to the Show n Shine year including tea cup, dodgem cars, bungee tramps, rock climbing, the sizzler and animals from Oakvale Wildlife Park.
The Christmas community event is also a chance for the community to say ‘thanks’ to local emergency services such as police, NSW Fire & Rescue, Rural Fire Service, NSW SES and local organisations Raymond Terrace Lions and Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed.
There will also be displays by Raymond Terrace Lions, Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed, Hunter Water, Port Stephens Council, OPTUS, Telstra, Flight Centre, RAAF Base Williamtown and Legacy.
Schools, dance groups and the Jumpin’ Jukebox trio will perform on stage throughout the day.
Ms Mulholland-Ruiz said this day takes months of planning from the MarketPlace team, which wanted to say a “very big thank you” to the sponsors who also help make the day possible:
- MarketPlace Raymond Terrace owners and retailers
- Raymond Terrace Bowling Club
- Port Stephens Examiner
- Carline Mufflers Raymond Terrace
- Bursons Auto Parts Raymond Terrace
- Shannon’s Insurance
- M&M Paint and Panel
“The business supporting this event invest money to make it a free event for all. It is our way in saying thank you to our community for supporting local businesses throughout the year,” Ms Mulholland-Ruiz said.
Santa’s Arrival will be held on Sunday, November 11 from 10am at MarketPlace Raymond Terrace and the adjacent sportsground.
