The state government has announced the building of a new police station at Karuah, expected to cost in the vicinity of $1 million.

Minister for Police Troy Grant said on Tuesday that while the Karuah station may service a small community, it was vital the police have a modern, permanent base to work out of.
“This is also inviting for the community who may need police assistance,” he said.
Port Stephens Duty MLC Catherine Cusack met with Karuah police late in 2017 about the need for a permanent police building.
“The funding for the new Karuah Police Station will be rolled out over three years, and initial design concepts for the future station will be ready in early 2019,” she said.
Port Stephens Liberal candidate Jaimie Abbott said that the existing police station would ultimately be knocked down and a modern facility would be built on the current site, ensuring the local police have a contemporary base that will serve them well into the future.
Other police stations in the Hunter region undergoing an upgrade include Tea Gardens and Cessnock.
