It is that time of the year again that Christmas decorations begin going up, Santa pops up in shopping centres and students of Raymond Terrace Public School begin their charity food drive.

In a decade-long tradition, the whole of school contributes non-perishable food items and small gifts to the drive which goes to the Salvation Army and St John’s Anglican Church parish pantry.
The donations are distributed to Port families for Christmas.
Carmel Dunn, community liaison officer at the school, said the food drive taught children about helping others.
“All the students know what the food drive is for – to help families,” she said.
“I think it’s good for the kids to help others like this, where possible. It makes them feel good about helping others, and of course they are helping.”
Donations are being accepted until Monday, December 3.
As an incentive, the class that donates the most items receives a pizza lunch on the school.
The community can get behind the appeal, too, by donating non-perishable food items to the front office.
The Salvation Army this week kicked off its Christmas Appeal.
Raymond Terrace Salvation Army officer Tracey Iles said a small contribution to the appeal can make a big difference in helping families.
