The season of giving is upon us and to help Port Stephens families feeling the pinch this Christmas, the Examiner and Dowling Real Estate is set to launch its annual toy appeal on Monday to help ease some of the burden.

The annual appeal collects hundreds of toys for the Salvation Army which are distributed to Port families needing a hand up at this time of year.
More than 500 toys were donated to the toy appeal last year - the 23rd year the Examiner and Dowling have teamed up to run the drive for the Salvation Army.
“It gets bigger every year,” Dowling Real Estate principal Craig Higgins said.
“We have people come in every year to donate, which is great to see.
“The community really digs deep for this cause every year. It's a good cause.”
Examiner editor Anna Wolf said donations, no matter how big or small, go “such a long way to making Christmas special for someone who really needs it”.
The Examiner and Dowling Christmas toy appeal will run Monday, November 19 to Wednesday, December 19.
Anyone wishing to donate a toy to the appeal can do so between 9am and 5pm weekdays at the Dowling offices in Raymond Terrace and Medowie as well as the Examiner’s office in Raymond Terrace.
Toy donations are asked to be new, for boys and girls any age and left unwrapped.
Donations will be collected by the Salvation Army and distributed to Port families in need.
About 100 Port families seek assistance from the Salvation Army at Christmas each year.
