Soldiers Point Bowling Club is home to a national champion after Betty Herbertson’s return from the 2018 Australian Senior Sides Championships in South Australia with a women’s title in hand.

Herbertson was part of the Women’s Bowls NSW over-60s team that claimed the women’s title in dramatic fashion during the October 15 to 18 championship on the Yorke Peninsula.
NSW only sealed victory on the last end of the last finishing rink in their match against previous leaders Western Australia.
The side jumped from third to first to win the Betty Collins OAM trophy for the first time since 2012.
On the way to their title the team recorded victories against South Australia, Northern Territory, Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia. Their two losses came against ACT and Queensland.
The championship brings 192 of Australia’s finest overs 60s bowlers together to represent their states.
Herbertson, who has been has been playing bowls since 1977, was skip for one of NSW’s three fours teams.
