Stockton finished the day with 86 points while St Philip’s trailed with 80. Tomaree Public School (66) and Shoal Bay Public School (56) came in third and fourth respectively.
Tournament organiser James Bellette from Foreshore Tennis at Fingal Bay said it was a good result for the sixth-annual tennis championship, which was founded by the late Australian tennis legend Peter Doohan, as it was at risk of not being staged at all this year due to the Campvale bushfire at the end of November then a heavy downpour of rain on the day it was rescheduled to.
“It’s fantastic that we were able to get four out of the seven schools that usually participate,” Bellette said.
“It is also great that we have kids from St Philip’s forgo their school holidays to be here and that there’s a lot of new faces.
“We really love seeing kids active. Active kids are happy kids. We’re really happy that we were able to squeeze this tournament into this calendar year.”
The championship is set to expand next year to include primary schools from Fern Bay, Medowie, Bobs Farm and Tanilba Bay.
