Fingal Beach flyer Grace Hewitt was selected in the Hunter branch team and contributed to the team’s podium finish. Hunter finished third behind Northern Beaches and Sydney.
Grace won the under-15 beach sprint from Lucy Flannagan (North Cronulla) and Amy Joy (Bellambi).
A busy day for the Bay teenager, Grace finished third in the beach flags and third in the sprint relay.
Marking 38 consecutive years of rugby league, former Manly player Simon Chapple is set to lace his boots up with the Stroud Raiders in 2019.
His wife, Verity, will co-coach the Stroud ladies league tag team.
Last week Simon was selected in the Hunter Miners representative team that played in the National Senior Oztag Championships in Coffs Harbour.
Simon joined former Knights speedster Ash Gordon in the over 50s team that finished fifth in their section with wins over the Sunshine Coast and the ACT.
After a long career in the game Simon has many highlights to celebrate – playing first grade with his son Reece with the Port Stephens Sharks in 2013 and touring with the Australian police rugby league team to Argentina in 2005.
Raymond Terrace rugby league club are keen to shake off the cobwebs early and have started training.
The men’s team is under the direction of A-grade coach Brooke Roach and Craig Murray. They train on Tuesday nights.
The Ravens, under coach Paul Marquet, train on Mondays and Thursday at 6pm at Lakeside.
The Magpies will retain the bulk of their players in 2019 including the league’s highest point scorer, Luke Handsaker. Tough veteran PJ Ellis is also in the mix.
The club will hold their family fun day this Saturday at Lakeside starting a 10am.
The day will also be an opportunity for intending players to sign up and for members to get the latest information on season 2019.
Nelson Bay A-grade cricket team stayed in contention for semi-finals with a thumping 83 run win over Warners Bay last weekend.
Big hitting Tyler Ostle was a man on a mission with 47 runs including 5 sixes and 1 four. Captain Doug Rowland chipped in with 27 runs however it was the right armed pace attack of Kev Wright that lead the rout with the amazing figures 4-4 including a hat trick.
The B1 side struggled against Warners Bay who won convincingly. Best with the bat for the Bay was talented teenager Isaac Chapman, 27 runs, while Ray Anderson contributed a quick fire 17 runs at the tail end.
