The grant will go towards the replacement of the traditional lettered notice board to an electronic one, which will be installed outside the Heatherbrae-based gardens along the Pacific Highway.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC announced the grant at the gardens on Wednesday, and said Hunter Water and Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group are also contributing funds to the project.
“An electronic notice board in place of the existing outdated sign will reduce the burden on the volunteers and give the Gardens greater exposure of their events,” Mr MacDonald said.
“I thank Premier Berejiklian who recognised the important community work of the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens.”
“I also wish to thank Hunter Water and Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group for their generous support of this worthwhile project.”
The new notice board will be installed outside the gardens on the Pacific Highway and will replace the existing manually operated board that is used to display event details and other information.
Mr MacDonald said the gardens and the volunteers undertook important environmental and community work, and that the committee goes to great lengths to ensure the gardens are accessible to the disabled and school groups.
Jaimie Abbott, the Liberal candidate for the state seat of Port Stephens, joined Mr MacDonald at the gardens on Wednesday.
She said the new sign would give greater visibility to passing motorists of events at the gardens.
“Clear and effective signage is a priority for driving visitation to the gardens, so I’m pleased the gardens have secured this important project with the assistance of the NSW Liberal National Government,” Ms Abbott said.
“I look forward to working closely with the gardens and their fantastic group of dedicated volunteers if I am elected as the next member for Port Stephens.”
