The photos I have received over the last month might lead me to believe that we live in the land of the giants. Bream over two kilograms, mud crabs over 2.5 kilograms, mulloway over 30 kilograms, flathead over one metre in length and snapper to 10 kilograms.

I didn’t get to weigh it, but I did see the biggest teraglin last week when I took the family to Broughton Island. The reason that our fish and crabs are such monsters is because of the magnificent habitat in which they mature.
Healthy mangrove forests and sea grass meadows thrive throughout the port and contribute to the health of the system.
Water temperature and quality along with an available food source all add up to thumpers growing and developing in our waterways. It is our responsibility to protect the unique environment in which we live.
Fingal Bay champion Ray Gretch, with an all lady crew, travelled to Taylors Beach where they targeted trumpeter whiting. What a feast when the crew returned with their bag limit. Ray tells me that prawn was the best bait with worms and nippers a close second.
Crabs are selecting their partners for the Pride of Erin and should start dancing before Christmas.
