Denise Duffy, the senior club's grants coordinator and player for the Ravens ladies tag team, said the funds granted through the NSW Community Building Partnership program would be used to build shower stalls, add a hand wash basin and mirror in the senior and junior change rooms which are both currently an open plan design.
“This is really about inclusivity and making sure the club is moving forward,” Duffy said.
“Females in football is growing really fast and we're pushing for more female inclusion in the club.
“These renovations will ensure that juniors, seniors, both male and female, and opposing teams who come here to compete are comfortable.”
Duffy said it was the club’s hope to have the work carried out before the start of the 2019 season in mid-March.
The showers in the clubhouse at Lakeside Sporting Complex are an open plan design.
The only private space to change is the small toilet cubicle.
Anyone wishing to wash their hands must use the showers to do so as there is no hand basin.
The club’s plan is to install a total of 14 individual shower cubicles in both home and away change rooms.
The club is currently seeking quotes for the work.
Country Rugby League and Port Stephens Council supported the senior club’s grant application.
