Stockton Beach north to Kingsley, One Mile, Samurai and Fingal Beaches have their own personalities.
Summer means it’s time for the big whiting to nose through the sand in the warm shallows just behind the first line of breakers.
Whiting has arrived on all beaches just in time for the holiday season.
Thumpers cruise the beaches in search of small, soft-shelled pipis and worms and are best targeted in the morning and evening on a rising tide.
Stockton and Samuari are the only beaches that permit 4x4 access and permits are required.
Fingal Beach has long been recognised as a whiting beach with parking available at the surf club.
Walk onto the beach and head a hundred metres or so towards the Fingal Spit.
Early morning tailor, salmon and flathead are awaiting your arrival and cracking mulloway move into the “gutters” after sunset.
Be aware that crossing Fingal Spit can be very dangerous.
As the tide rises, waves from the north and south meet in the centre of the unique landform with the strength to wash you off your feet. Check the conditions with the surf club before crossing.
Stay safe.
