Sacred Tree Markets founder Jessica Rowarth said the popularity of food trucks at market nights has increased in the past three years, bringing with it an opportunity to create a whole new community event.
“We’ve been running in Nelson Bay for three years and the longer we run the more demand there is for street food,” she said.
“These Street Food Socials are about giving the community something new.
“We’ll bring a bunch of trucks to the one spot for the community to come together, enjoy some food, some entertainment.
“It’s a real family friendly vibe.”
The Street Food Social schedule, for now, is:
- Fly Point Park, Nelson Bay on January 12
- Boyd Oval, Medowie on January 19
- Fly Point Park again on January 27 and;
- Robinson Reserve, Anna Bay on February 2
Each Street Food Social will begin at 4pm.
Some of the trucks set to roll into the Bay and Medowie include Big Al’s Sandwich House, El Poco Loco, Bao Brothers and Harry’s Schnitzel Joint.
About seven trucks offering a variety of food will be available at each location.
Ms Rowarth said she would look to continue and expand the Street Food Social offering later in the year.
The markets have approval to expand into Raymond Terrace.
“The first four will be a trial to see how they go. This is our first time running a street food event. We’ll see how the trial period goes but we’re keen to expand into more communities,” Ms Rowarth said.
