The temperature reached a top of 27 degrees Celsius in Nelson Bay, turning the beaches into iconic summer scenes of swimming, laughing, sun baking and sand castle-building.
Residents and visitors to the Bay can expect much of the same weather on the weekend – sunny and hot.
The NSW Bureau of Meteorology forecasts a top of 29 degrees for Nelson Bay on Saturday and 27 degrees on Sunday.
However, the wind that gusted through the Bay on Friday afternoon is expected to die down across the weekend.
The temperature is expected to climb up to 29 degrees on Tuesday and keep climbing into the 30s later in the week.
