Come along at any time during the day and have some fun. Enjoy a free sausage sandwich, ice cream and drink. Even if you’ve never played before, you can borrow one of the club’s racquets, get a free tennis lesson from a professional coach and have a hit with your family.
“The government is trying to encourage people to play sport and we’ve won a sports grant to promote tennis to families,” Soldiers Point Tennis Club president Paul McQuarrie said.
“Our certified professional coach James Bellette will be at the Free Family Tennis day giving lessons with the ball hitting machine.
“As an added incentive, any new member who joins the club in January will be entitled to four one-hour professional lessons from James.
“And as an extra special offer, anyone becoming new members of the club on the Day will get a free 30-minute ride in an amazing Tesla electric car running on AutoPilot! Get details on the Day.”
Paul believes tennis is a great sport for families on so many levels. Some join the club just to meet new friends.
“It’s great for fitness, and caters across the spectrum for those who want to be competitive or just play socially,” he said. “Doesn’t matter what age – tennis is a sport you can play lifelong providing a positive ongoing circle of support.”
Soldiers Point Tennis Club is one of the most progressive in the state and the first to install internet access to their three courts.
“Instead of having to physically go get the key off someone, people can now go online, book, get a PIN that gives them access to the courts and turns on the lights if playing at night,” Paul said.
“The money is paid online and everyone is happy. It’s so much easier.”
Tennis Australia encouraged Soldiers Point to be a champion for the technology and it has paid off.
“We are a growing club with 140 members, up from 66 five years ago,” Paul said.
“It shows the public really responds if you provide quality facilities.”
Soldiers Point Tennis Club boasts three all-weather courts open seven days a week from 7am to 10pm.
“We also have a clubhouse and hitting wall. Anyone who is a member [$60 annual fee + $20 joining fee] can book for free any time during the day,” Paul said. “There is a small fee at night to cover the lights.”
The club is conveniently located at Ridgeway Avenue Soldiers Point next to a park boasting free barbecue facilities and kiddies play area, making it perfect for a picnic while people have a game.
