Airport CEO Dr Peter Cock said that the land purchase was part of the development of Astra Aerolab Business Technology Park and an incentive for further investment.
“Astra will provide global connectivity for trade, tourism and jobs,” he said.
Last September Deputy Premier John Barilaro announced the award of a $11.7 million grant to kick-off the development of Astra Aerolab to capitalise on the region’s economic strengths.
The land purchase means progress on the site can begin as early as next month.
It is proposed to develop 73 lots on 46 hectares of land, providing direct airside access for selected lots plus cafes, parks and cycleways, as part of a $19 million project funded by the NSW government, Port Stephens and Newcastle councils.
