Based on the concept of trading trash for treasure, the Seaside Scavenge will take place at Anna Bay’s Robinson Reserve on Saturday, March 16.
Port Stephens Council’s tourism coordinator Janelle Gardner said that the scavenge would help promote the recycling and upcycling message to the Port's residents, visitors and businesses.
"Port businesses are encouraged to support the scavenge and to join the fight to reduce single use plastic across Port Stephens," she said.
"This is a new and important event for the area: Port Stephens is surrounded by some of the best coastline around, but with that comes the responsibility to ensure it remains beautiful for years.
"And through this event we’re providing a fun opportunity for our community to get involved in cleaning up the nearby Birubi beach."
Running from 9am to 1pm, the Seaside Scavenge will see community members trading beach litter for a range of vintage and upcycled items including clothes, accessories and more at a pop-up market.
"Whether it be through donating items for the pop-up market or taking part in the scavenge, there’s something for everyone,” Ms Gardner said.
