State election candidates Kate Washington and Jaimie Abbott will go head to head at a meet the candidates forum to be held on Monday, March 11. The free public forum to be hosted by the Tomaree Residents and Ratepayers Association (TRRA) will take place at Nelson Bay Bowling Club from 7pm. The forum will provide an opportunity for the candidates to introduce themselves to the voting public, to provide a brief statement of their priorities for the coming term of government, and to answer questions on matters of concern to the community. TRRA president Geoff Washington said that he was delighted that Ms Washington, the Labor candidate, and Ms Abbott, the liberal candidate, had confirmed their participation in this year’s forum. "With nominations not closing until March 6, other candidates will be invited as they announce that they are standing," he said. Mr Washington said that several major issues impacting on the Tomaree Peninsula had emerged in the pre-election debate and the forum would provide voters an opportunity to discover where the candidates stood on such matters. "The successful format used in past forums will allow all candidates equal time, with an opportunity to take questions from the floor. A short session on 'How your Preferences Work' will also be included," he said. This free forum is open to the general public.
