Port Stephens Community Arts Centre, organisers of the biannual and highly sought after event, have counted all the entries, which came to a total of 377.
The centre reports that 177 of the entries are from across Australia.
Fifty-one entries are by professional artists.
The 14th Art Prize exhibition will show at Port Stephens Community Arts Centre in Cultural Close, Nelson Bay between March 16 and 24.
The official opening and awards presentation will be held on Friday, March 15 starting at 6.30 pm.
Tickets cost $15 per person and are available for purchase online from artscentrenelsonbay.org.au (go to Art Prize 2019 and select 'register') or at the door on the night.
Port Stephens Community Arts Centre member Peter Smith won the Port Stephens Art Prize last year with his work Sun's Last Rays in oil.
Mr Smith has entered three paintings in three of the sections for this year’s competition.
The 2019 Art Prize sections include:
- Travel - Colour and Wonder
- Australiana - Over Land and Sea
- Portraits - The One Who Touched My Heart
- Port Stephens Art Prize - Our Natural Environment
- Miniatures - Taste and Sound
Each section is open to works in all paint and drawing mediums.
The 2019 Port Stephens Art prize is set to be a fantastic exhibition to all visitors to the area.
All artworks will be for sale.
The descriptions of why the artist chose their subject will be a highlight of the exhibition.
The sections of the 2019 Port Stephens Art Prize will be judged by Raymond Terrace artist Debra Liel-Brown.
Ms Liel-Brown has been a professional exhibiting artist since 1986. She has had 60 exhibitions to date.
