No sausages on the menu this week. To put it simply - the fish have gone crackers. Outside the heads slimy mackerel, yellowtail and garfish are everywhere in extraordinary numbers. Tailor, along with mulloway are feasting on the huge amounts of baitfish. Tuna, bonito, cobia, teraglin and snapper are all joining in the party. Thumping whiting and bream are cruising the beaches particularly Stockton and Fingal. Sea worms are very nervous.
Inside the port monster mudcrabs, over three kilograms are rumbling through the mangroves along the western borders. Blue swimmer crabs are showing interest along with dusky flathead, whiting and garfish off the Shoal Bay wharf. I did hear that a seven-kilogram snapper was caught off the Little Beach jetty through the week.
A gentle reminder from fisheries to observe bag limits and in possession laws. It is illegal for recreational fishers to sell any of their catch to anyone. I'm told that fines are heavy for such activity.
