Respectfully seek truth
Millions would agree with Luke Thiele (Examiner, Letters, April 25) that there is no God and therefore no purpose in creation.

However, Albert Einstein, discoverer of the theory of relativity and perhaps the greatest thinker in history, thought differently.
Einstein said: "The religious inclination lies in the dim consciousness that dwells in humans that all nature, including the humans in it, is in no way an accidental game, but a work of lawfulness, that there is a fundamental cause of all existence".
Einstein was not a Christian - but concerning Jesus Christ, he said: "...I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene (Jesus). Unquestionably, no-one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life."
God and reason can coexist. So, let us have a respectful discussion on this. After all, is any question more important than the purpose of our existence?
As a seeker of truth, Einstein was motivated to read the New Testament containing the Gospels. Even if you're an atheist, why not do the same?

Vote wisely on May 18
Some people do not have the freedom or opportunity to elect their politicians.
In Australia we are a free country that has many services that other countries envy. For those who have worked hard, we can enjoy a respectable lifestyle and can afford to, at times, assist those less fortunate.
We expect governments to utilise our hard earned taxes for the betterment of all Australians not the not just the multi-national tax dodgers, nor to the support of those companies who fail to pay employees entitlements or the party that supports racism. When people vote, please vote to eradicate these splinter parties and start enjoying the Australia we used to have. I have no political affiliation.

More needed for Birubi
Wow, 311,000 tourists flock to Birubi Beach during the Surf Life Saving Season (Birubi jewel in Port beach crown, Examiner, May 2).
I wonder at how many tourists were as embarrassed as us locals in regard to the gateway area that is leading up to and into the beach? The high vegetation on the roadside - that only gets mowed when residents complain to the council - the lack of parking, the lack of barbecue facilities for families to enjoy and that monstrous eyesore on the corner [that is Birubi Beach Resort] and no footpaths. I guess all the money must go into the beautification of Nelson Bay itself. Perhaps the Mayor should and come out and have a look.

Book fair success
The Port Stephens uniting Church congregation and the Book Fair Committee at Salamander Bay and Soldiers Point would like to thank the community for its generous support and kind donations for our recent event.
It was a very successful Annual Book Fair last Saturday and the welcome rain did not deter book lovers seeking a bargain and enjoying tea and coffee with friends. My sincere thanks to everyone who attended.
