After five rounds in the CRL Central Hunter open women's tackle competition, the Rooettes are sitting fourth on the ladder with two losses.
"With how hard the girls train and play, I definitely think we're a threat," Evans said. "I think we're flying under the radar at the moment. But we're giving the competition a good shake up."
This is the first season the Karuah Rooettes have played tackle. It follows on from the team playing in the summer Women's 9s competition where they were grand finalists.
Meanwhile, the Karuah Roos men have had a tough start to the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby League season, posting no wins from five outings.
Roos player Alexander Munzer said the team had faced some of the Northern Conference's toughest teams in their opening rounds without a full squad.
"It's still only early days and we're continually improving as a team," he said.
Both Karuah teams face Maitland United at home on Saturday.
The Rooettes play at 12.50pm and the Roos at 2pm.
Anyone interested in playing with the Rooettes are invited to attend training on Monday and Wednesdays, 5.30pm-7.30pm.
