After last year's successful treadmill challenge, where the Bay gym raised $7000 for Suicide Prevention Australia, the fifth highest in Australia, the crew are ramping it up for the third-annual event and are looking to raise $10,000 for R U OK?
"The aim of this challenge is to raise much needed awareness and funds for suicide prevention and R U OK?," club manager Karen Short said.
"The challenge highlights the benefit physical exercise has on mental health, but also helps people start a conversation about mental health."
This year Anytime Fitness clubs nationally will be 'treading as one' starting at 3pm on Friday, May 31.
The treadmill challenge has been a success in Salamander Bay in the past two years.
Defence and emergency services throw their support behind the event and book a big chunk of time on the threadmills for its personnel to take part in the challenge.
This year, Anytime Fitness has asked for the support of businesses with several such as Hog's Breath, Optus, Tony Short Real Estate, KFC, Salamander Bay Square and Woolworths supporting the challenge.
Woolworths will be cooking a barbecue at the gym on the morning of Saturday, June 1 as the challenge comes to an end.
Anytime is also reaching out to sporting clubs across the Port, encouraging them to enter a team into the challenge.
All staff from Anytime Fitness Salamander Bay will also be taking part in the challenge, including trainers Joshua Horvath and Hayden McGlinchy.
"I'm pumped for it," Mr Horvath said. "Mental health is a massive thing that we all need to help tackle. This is a great way to start a conversation about mental health."
Members of the community are invited to participate by walking, running, skipping or dancing for a minimum of 15 minutes at $1 per minute during the challenge period. They can also made a donation.
"Step out of your comfort zone and step into our gym to support a good cause," Ms Short said.
The gym's five treadmills are expected to fill up for the challenge period.
Participants are encouraged to head to anytimefitnesstreadmillevent.com.au and register so as to not miss out.
