A PILE of unattended belongings found at Tomaree headland has sparked a missing persons search in Port Stephens.

According to reports, members of the public found the items about 11am on Wednesday and contacted police. Police have since identified the owner of the belongings and a missing persons search in under way.
The search, including PolAir, Marine Rescue and the State Emergency Service, was undertaken in the Tomaree National Park but nothing was uncovered. It was called off about 5pm Wednesday and resumed on Thursday morning.
